The application deadline for The Nordplus programmes is March 14 and expectations are running high. The Nordplus Framework 2008-2011 has been launched and received with great interest especially in the Baltic region. But how the administrators from countries in the Baltic region feel about it and what do they expect the growing interest will bring?
Number of people coming to launch conferences in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania proves that the Nordplus is an appealing concept to many.
"The interest in the events which are going on is big, but it’s difficult to predict how many schools and organisations will actually apply", says Anne Hütt from Centre for Educational Programmes in Estonia.
Language
The new Nordplus Framework presents a new potential for language learning but also a challenge for the three newcomers.
"We think that those that have already participated in EU programmes will probably apply for The Nordplus too. They are more experienced and they already communicate in English", remarks Indre Baltraityte from Education Exchanges Support Foundation in Lithuania.
The administrators agree on that language can be a challenge and those who are most likely to search partners in the Nordic countries are English teachers classes.
Founding
Language is only one of the main challenges. Ability to cofinance projects will also affect the amount of applications.
"The newcomers can experience difficulties but it is just because they haven’t managed to find a founding yet. They need to learn from already existing bilateral projects, which are doing just fine", points out Hütt.
The first results will show the quality of the projects and if there is a need for adjustment.
"That’s the best way to learn", smiles Martynas Sukys from Education Exchanges Support Foundation in Lithuania.
