An art university without walls
14 Nordic & Baltic institutions joined forces and became one ambitious and exciting Nordplus network KUNO (Kunst Utdanninger i Norden).
Studentsand teachers have been given access to resources they may not find at their home institutions.
The network was established in 1993 starting with ten Nordic member institutions. Estonian, Lithuanian and Latvian art academies became members in 2005.
A corner stone of KUNO’s work is student mobility, including both exchange periods of one or two semesters and express mobility which may last from one to four weeks. KUNO is well known and holds a distinct profile, both within the member institutions and in a wider European and international art educational context. Each year all member institutions open two of their courses to students from the network.
Connecting people
It is not unusual that students returning from express courses eventually connect teachers and professors, even though the main arena for the educators is the annual KUNO teacher’s seminar. Network meetings bring people face to face and lead to mutual trust and understanding.
Kick off
The joint effort of six KUNO institutions has opened the door for nine MA-students in sound and art studies. The Nordic Sound Art kick off is the major event of the year.
The fact that Nordic Sound Art was conceived in 2005 only demonstrates that patience is a virtue, but it also shows that the network is heading steadily towards its aim of becoming an Art University Without Walls.
