”Bioengineering is a global profession”, says Lena Morgan, the vice-president of bioengineering organisation in Sweden (IBL) and the president of International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS).
About 80 participants and speakers from Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden took part in the first Nordic conference about education in bioengineering in Fredrikstad in Norway. Conference is a result of a successful cooperation between The Nordplus programme BIO-NORD and The Norwegian Society of Engineers and Technologists (NITO).
Exchange
Since the programme started in 2005 has BIO-NORD aimed to utilise and share the knowledge and experiences within bioengineering. The programme supports teacher and student mobility in the Nordic region. The conference was a natural place to build new networks and to exchange experience across the country borders.
Differences
“IFBLS aim is to support worldwide mobility of bioengineers. The Nordic region is homogenous but one can still find language barriers and different approaches within the educational systems”, explains Morgan.
The conference participants got an understanding of the educational system within biomedical laboratory in different parts of the world. Themes like communication, student mobility, the use of students as instructors in the future were also discussed.
